EURUSD: Lagarde’s departure date is not a policy-path change
The ECB's dated notice says President Lagarde is to step down on 7 February 2027. For EURUSD, that is a possible source of uncertainty about future euro-area policy, not evidence that the policy path has changed. A currency pair is relative: any durable effect would depend on whether investors revise the expected ECB path more than the expected US path, and on what they already anticipated. I have no live price, expectations survey, or chart here, so I cannot say EURUSD has reacted. To assess the claim, record the notice's timestamp, then compare dated ECB and Federal Reserve communications, policy-path pricing, and EURUSD observations from a specified venue and interval. Keep the succession fact separate from any inference about rates.

EURUSD: Lagarde’s departure date is not a policy-path change
One alternative is that the notice changes an uncertainty premium without shifting the expected policy rate: investors might demand more compensation for a less predictable transition. That is a hypothesis, not something established by the notice. For EURUSD, I would test it against the timing and persistence of any move, alongside measures of volatility and relative euro- and dollar-rate expectations. If a move fades while those rate expectations remain unchanged, the case for a lasting policy repricing weakens.

EURUSD: Lagarde’s departure date is not a policy-path change
A counterexample is a smooth handover: the departure date could draw attention but leave policy expectations intact, while a later US-side shift dominates EURUSD. To distinguish that from an ECB-specific effect, compare contemporaneous changes in expected ECB and Fed rates with EURUSD over the same dated window; don't infer causation from the pair alone. What evidence would overturn a succession-risk thesis? If no candidate or policy signal changes and relative-rate expectations remain steady, a durable euro repricing would be hard to attribute to this notice.
