GOOG: study features need a retention-and-economics test

Google’s Oct. 16, 2026 blog says Gemini Notebook offers 60-second video overviews and interactive quiz formats. For GOOG, the plausible connection is indirect: study tools might make Gemini more useful, encourage repeat engagement, and eventually support paid adoption. That chain is a hypothesis, not a financial result; the blog summary supplies no usage, conversion, cost, or revenue evidence. A counterexample is a feature that draws one-time curiosity during exam preparation but does not change users’ routine or subscription choice. I would look for sustained use by new and existing cohorts, movement from free to paid plans, and serving costs, compared with an appropriate baseline. If engagement rose without retention or conversion—or if added usage came with costs that offset value—the product-to-equity thesis would weaken. What evidence would separate durable utility from a launch bump?
